چکیده

A fundanental sub-problem of the task of interpreting the sonar data gathered by a mobile subnersible robot vehicle is that of constructing and maintaining a stationary global reference frame in which interpretation can take place. Such a frane nay be established by tracking the movements of objects in the local environment of the robot and using the data so obtained to deduce the motion of the observer. In a marine context, where currents make it impossible to hold a vehicle stationary for any extended period, it is important to track the vehicle and object motion continuously in real time. In this paper the problem of establishing a stationary reference frame using noisy, specular, intermittent sonar data is discussed and a computational method for i t s solution is presented. The nethod has been tested by computer simulation in a two dimensional context and an evaluation of i t s performance is given. The solution presented is not restricted to marine vehicles but is espec ia l l y effective for land-based vehicles, where operating conditions are less severe.

Optimal Observer Path Planning For Bearings-Only Moving Targets Tracking Using Chebyshev Polynomials

In this paper, an optimization problem for the observer trajectory in the bearings-only surface moving target tracking (BOT) is studied. The BOT depends directly on the observability of the target's position in the target/observer geometry or the optimal observer maneuver. Therefore, the maximum lower band of the Fisher information matrix is opted as an independent criterion of the target estim...

An Efficient Target Tracking Algorithm Based on Particle Filter and Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we propose an efficient hybrid Particle Filter (PF) algorithm for video tracking by employing a genetic algorithm to solve the sample impoverishment problem. In the presented method, the object to be tracked is selected by a rectangular window inside which a few numbers of particles are scattered. The particles’ weights are calculated based on the similarity between feature vecto...

Applying mean shift and motion detection approaches to hand tracking in sign language

Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...

Cooperative Estimation of 3D Target Motion via Networked Visual Motion Observer

This paper investigates cooperative estimation of 3D target object motion for visual sensor networks. In particular, we consider the situation where multiple smart vision cameras see a group of target objects. The objective here is to meet two requirements simultaneously: averaging for static objects and tracking to moving target objects. For this purpose, we present a cooperative estimation me...

Closing the loop: detection and pursuit of a moving object by a moving observer

We present an integrated system, which is able to pursue a moving object and maintain the object centered in the image, by controlling a robot-head. The system contains three parts, independent motion detection, tracking, and control of a robot-head. This paper focuses on the detection mechanism and brieey discusses the tracking and control issues. The system runs continuously in time and updat...
